This course provides an introduction to electrical circuits and foundational concepts related to rotating electrical machines, while also developing practical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills. Students will explore essential topics including DC series, shunt, and compound motors; motor speed, torque, and performance; split-phase and capacitor-based AC motors; and three-phase AC induction motors. Additional coverage includes DC generators, AC alternators for mobile generation, and synchronous machines used for power factor correction.
Building on these fundamentals, the course emphasizes common AC and DC motor malfunctions and industry-standard diagnostic techniques. Students will learn to use tools such as multimeters and megger meters to identify and troubleshoot issues, including stator winding failures in three-phase AC motors and armature testing in DC motors. By the end of the course, learners will be equipped to apply systematic troubleshooting methods to real-world motor performance problems.
