This instructional unit for this expanded function prepares the participant to manipulate and apply appropriate material
Placement or bonding of orthodontic brackets and bands or provisional orthodontic appliances following review of the fit and function by the supervising dentist.
Removal of adhesive, orthodontic brackets, and bands, or provisional orthodontic appliances using nonmotorized hand instrumentation
After this instructional unit, the participant will be able to:
Review brackets and bands 
Identify materials and techniques available 
Learn commonly used techniques for the removal of brackets, bands, and provisional orthodontic appliances using non-motorized instruments Manipulate and apply the material to clinical competency

A minimum number of total hours: Didactic hours: 4 hours/ 2 hours for placement and bonding; 2 hours for removal Lab hours: 2 hours/ includes a minimum of 4 hands-on (non-patient). 2 experiences focus on placement & bonding and 2 experiences focus on removal. Minimum number of patient experiences: A total 10 experiences

Continuing Education Units: 12 (4 didactic hours and 8 hours lab/clinical)

Please read:  Must have a valid Email Address. Must complete within 6 months of registration. Participants must comply with 1 (one) of the following: a. Hold an active dental hygiene license in Iowa; or b. Hold an active dental assistant registration, and comply with at least one of the following: (1)Be a graduate of an accredited school; or (2)Be currently certified by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB); or (3)Have at least three months of clinical practice as a registered dental assistant; or (4)Have at least three months of clinical practice as a dental assistant in a state that does not require registration. This course must be completed within 6 months of registration. Valid email required. Please allow for up to 24 hours for an online course invite to be sent to your email.
