CDL Test 3: Road Test Retest

DOT certified third party testing is available for individuals seeking to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL A). CDL testing has three parts: Pre-Trip, Skills Test, and Road Test. The tests must be taken and passed in this sequence to receive a Commercial Driver's License.  After you've passed the knowledge test, obtained and held the Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) for at least 14 days, passed the CDL Test 1: Pre-Trip Vehicle Inspection and the CDL Test 2: Skills Test, you can take Test 3: Road Test.  You may schedule the test time upon receiving your CLP however, you will not be able to test until after 14 days of issuance. Cost of the each test is $100 per attempt. Failing any one test will require a re-test at the additional cost of $100 per testing occurrence. 

Hawkeye will provide your testing vehicle. If you choose to provide your vehicle it is required to be in good working order and is representative of the class of license you are applying for. If you are unable to provide one please contact us for alternative arrangements. During road test you will drive over a test route that has a variety of traffic situations. During the test you must:
  • Drive in safe and responsible manner
  • Wear your safety belt
  • Obey all traffic signs, signals, and laws
  • Complete the test without an accident or moving violation.
During the road test, the examiner will be scoring you on specific driving maneuvers as well as on your general driving behavior. Directions will be given to you so you will have plenty of time to do what the examiner has asked. You will not be asked to drive in an unsafe manner.
