Compressed air does most of the fast, repetitive motion on a production line — clamping, indexing, ejecting, gripping — and it is the one utility a plant tends to treat as free until someone prices the compressor's energy bill. Knowing how a pneumatic circuit works, and how to set one up properly, pays for itself in both uptime and air.
This hands-on course introduces the fundamentals of fluid power and puts them to work. You will read pneumatic circuit symbols, diagrams, and blueprints, learn the terminology the trade uses, and connect, adjust, operate, and analyze circuits built from quick connect, tee, and cross fittings, air compressors, filters, regulators, and lubricators, gauges and rotameters, directional control valves, flow control valves, check valves, cylinders, and motors. You will follow pneumatic safety rules, apply Pascal's Law and the force-pressure-area formula, convert between absolute and gauge pressure, perform reciprocating compressor startup and shutdown, set a pressure switch, drain filters, set and refill the lubricator, and measure delta P across the system.
This course prepares you to test for the Smart Automation Certification Alliance (SACA) C-209 Pneumatic Systems 1 certification.
