This course is designed to prepare the LPN to perform procedures related to the expanded scope of intravenous therapy in a licensed hospital, licensed skilled nursing facility, and a certified end-stage renal dialysis unit. Major emphasis is placed on the specialized skills needed to provide IV therapy for clients age 12 or older and weighing 80 pounds or more.Textbook is included. Approved for 5.0 nursing CEUs by Hawkeye Community College, IBON provider #5. Full attendance is required.

Please read: Prerequisites: 1) Unrestricted Iowa nursing license or an unrestricted license in another state recognized for licensure in this state pursuant to the nurse licensure compact contained in Iowa code 152E, 2) Documented 1040 hours as a LPN, currently employed in a licensed hospital, licensed skilled nursing facility, or a certified end-stage renal dialysis unit whose written policies and procedures allow the licensed practical nurse to perform procedures related to the expanded scope of intravenous therapy, and 3) Completed agency agreement to supervise clinical hours. A math competency test will be administered at the first class and the student must score at least 90% or better to continue in the class. Students will be emailed practice tests prior to the first class.
