ClassGraphic The CNC Machining and Turning Concepts certificate is a hands-on, non-credit career pathway program that prepares students to safely set up, operate, and program CNC mills and lathes. Students will practice hands-on competencies using FANUC and HAAS simulators and on industry-standard CNC equipment found inside machine shops. Designed for entry-level learners and current manufacturing professionals, it offers practical, lab-based training supported by online content through the Amatrol Learning Management System (LMS). Students build core skills in shop safety, blueprint reading, precision measurement, shop math, and machine setup through real-world exercises in Hawkeye’s open-concept lab at the Automation and Robotics Center inside of TechWorks Campus.
The course uses a flipped classroom model where students complete theory modules in the LMS outside of class and apply hands-on skills in structured lab sessions with instructor support. Topics include tool identification, basic maintenance, OSHA 10-hour safety certification, G-code programming, work offsets, and part verification. Students also learn how to write and troubleshoot CNC programs, interpret technical drawings, and inspect finished parts to ensure accuracy.
This program serves as a career pathway into machining, maintenance, and industrial operations occupations. Whether just starting in manufacturing or upskilling on the job, this course builds practical competencies for modern machining environments.
