Description:
The Iowa On-line Warrants and Articles Criminal Justice Information System (IOWA System) is a
computer system administered by the Iowa Department of Public Safety Technology Bureau. The
IOWA System assists Sheriffs’ Offices , police departments, county and state communications
centers, and various county, state, and federal criminal justice agencies to:
1) Access nationwide databases of information such as wanted, missing, and unidentified
persons; sex offenders; violent gang and terrorist organization members; protective orders; and
stolen property.
2) Request driver license and motor vehicle information in-state as well as out-of-state.
3) Exchange criminal history information on a national basis.
4) Communicate, by the use of administrative messages, with other criminal justice agencies
statewide and nationwide.
This course will acquaint the student with the capabilities and laws governing the use of the
IOWA/NCIC System. Successful completion of this program will certify the student as an IOWA
System user/operator for two years.
