An introductory course teaches what each hydraulic component does. This one teaches what happens when you put them together, and the circuit has to behave a particular way: traverse fast and then feed slow; sequence two cylinders in the right order; hold pressure without running the pump against a relief valve; all shift.
You will connect, adjust, operate, and analyze hydraulic circuits built from fixed displacement pumps; directional control valves, including pilot-operated, two-stage, and cam-operated types, with attention to spool center types and where each one belongs; compensated and non-compensated flow control valves; check valves, including pilot-operated and p-port types; direct-operated and pilot-operated relief valves; pressure reducing and sequence valves; accumulators; cylinders and their mountings; motors; gauges; flow meters; and fittings. Circuit work covers rapid traverse and slow feed, cylinder sequencing, remote pressure control, and pump unloading, as well as accumulator sizing and charging, power unit startup and shutdown, reservoir refilling, and measuring delta P. You will read hydraulic symbols and diagrams, apply Pascal's Law and the force-pressure-area formula, convert between absolute and gauge pressure, and follow hydraulic safety rules throughout. The course also covers heat exchangers, reservoirs, fluid conductors, fluid conditioning and filtration, and pump and motor performance analysis.
This course prepares you to test for the Smart Automation Certification Alliance (SACA) C-255 Hydraulic Systems 1 certification.
