This course prepares the LPN to perform procedures related to the expanded scope of intravenous therapy in a licensed hospital, licensed skilled nursing facility, and a certified end-stage renal dialysis unit. Major emphasis is placed on the specialized skills needed to provide IV therapy for clients age 12 or older and weighing 80 pounds or more. The textbook is included in the course fee.
To be eligible to enroll in the course, the licensed practical nurse shall hold a current unrestricted Iowa license to practice as a licensed practical nurse and documentation of 1040 hours of practice as a licensed practical nurse; be practicing in a licensed hospital, a nursing facility or a certified end-stage renal dialysis unit whose policies allow the licensed practical nurse to perform procedures related to the expanded scope of intravenous therapy.
This course is in a hybrid format. The asynchronous online course. The laboratory simulation will be in person on 03/26/2025from 9:00am to 1:00pm at Hawkeye Community College. Clinical may begin after 03/26/2025. The student must complete the clinical portion of the course within 60 days of completing the simulation laboratory requirements. A 30-day extension may be granted at the discretion of the instructor and the approved continuing education (CE) provider.
