CourseGraphic Hawkeye's High School Driver Education Program is designed to help the beginner driver to develop the knowledge, skill and attitude necessary to become a safe, responsible driver.  Hawkeye Community College provides 30 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of behind the wheel instruction.  This program meets the requirement of the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) and Motor Vehicles Division (DMV) for individuals to obtain the graduated driver's license (GDL). The student will be required to be proficient in their driving at the end of our course or will be required to drive with the DOT to get their license.  Students must have the ability to schedule after school and week-end driving times, they must bring their permit to every class.  The student must have a minimum of 10 hours of driving time before the class begins.  Attendance is required for ALL sessions. No exceptions. Students must have an Iowa driver's permit before enrolling. Fee can be waived or reduced for students who qualify in the Waterloo Community School District. 

Mandatory Zoom Orientation will be held for parent/legal guardian and student, notification of day and time will be sent after registration completion.

Please Note:  When you are registering a child for this course please be sure to login as the child you are wishing to register or create an account for that child and do not login or register yourself as a parent unless you are wanting to take the course yourself.  Students who have previously taken classes, such as moped/summer camp, will already have an account and should register for this course using their personal information.

Please read:  Student must be at least 14 years old, enrolled in school, obtain a learner's permit, and have 10 hours of behind the wheel driving before enrolling. Once the student is registered a mandatory zoom orientation for both parent and student must be attended. Students behind the wheel instruction is outside of the scheduled classroom time. The student must be available to drive with an instructor after school, Monday - Friday and weekends. *** If special accommodations are required, contact at 319-296-4014, prior to the start of the class.
