Fabrication, Temporary Cementation, Recementation & Removal of Provisional Restorations

This instructional unit provides the participant with the basic knowledge, principles, and preparation to fabricate and remove provisional restorations. Instructional Objective: At the completion of this instructional unit, the participant will be able to: 1. Identify and replicate anatomical characteristics of the tooth shape and alignment that protect the periodontium and preserve the integrity of the dentition. 2. Recognize normal occlusal relationships and maximum intercuspation. 3. Communicate the rationale and requirements for fabricating and placing a provisional restoration. 4. Use various methods to fabricate single-unit and multi-unit provisional restorations. 5. Adjust and finish provisional restoration to provide a normal occlusal relationship and maximum plaque resistance. 6. Temporarily cement provisional restorations as applicable. 7. Provide home care instructions for the provisional coverage. 8. Remove provisional restorations.

Please read:  Participants must comply with 1 (one) of the following: a. Hold an active dental hygiene license in Iowa; or b. Hold an active dental assistant registration, and comply with at least one of the following: (1) Be a graduate of an accredited school; or (2) Be currently certified by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB); or (3) Have at least three months of clinical practice as a registered dental assistant; or (4) Have at least three months of clinical practice as a dental assistant in a state that does not require registration Pre-instructional competency assessment: all participants must complete a preliminary written assessment at 75% Minimum number of total hours: Didactic hours: 4 Lab hours: 4 - 5 patient experiences. Lab training may be done in the office or classroom or a combination. In class, the course will meet half of the lab requirements with the remaining in the dental office.
