The updated expanded function, Taking Occlusal Registrations is a 3 CEU course that allows a dental assistant or hygienist to take occlusal registrations. Once certified, this valuable skill frees up the dentist as the team member can move treatment forward under direct supervision. This instructional unit provides the participant with the basic knowledge and principles required to accurately reproduce occlusion.
Instructional Objective: After this instructional unit, the participant will be able to: Recognize and record occlusal relationships. Explain the function of an occlusal registration. Describe the types and characteristics of various occlusal registration techniques and materials. Recognize factors that will alter the accuracy of the occlusal registration. Perform the procedural steps to obtain a clinically acceptable occlusal registration.
This skill is part of the State of Iowa's Level One designation for dental assisting and dental hygiene expanded functions.
