This instructional unit provides the participant with the basic knowledge, principles, and preparation to fabricate and remove provisional restorations. Instructional Objective for expanded function: At the completion of this instructional unit, the participant will be able to: 1. Identify and replicate anatomical characteristics of the tooth shape and alignment that protect the periodontium and preserve the integrity of the dentition. 2. Recognize normal occlusal relationships and maximum intercuspation. 3. Communicate the rationale and requirements for fabricating and placing a provisional restoration. 4. Use various methods to fabricate single-unit and multi-unit provisional restorations. 5. Adjust and finish provisional restoration to provide a normal occlusal relationship and maximum plaque resistance. 6. Temporarily cement provisional restorations as applicable. 7. Provide home care instructions for the provisional coverage. 8. Remove provisional restorations.
