The instructional unit for this expanded function provides the participant with the basic knowledge, principles, and preparation to reproduce soft and hard oral tissues for a final impression.
Instructional Objective: After this instructional unit, the participant will be able to:
1. Identify the minimal anatomical detail required for the fabrication of the prosthetic device.
2. Describe the function and characteristics of various impression types.
3. Recognize factors that will alter the impression properties and clinical performance.
4. Complete the procedural steps to obtain a clinically acceptable final impression.
5. Perform a preliminary assessment of the impression prior to submission to the dentist for final evaluation.
